چکیده
Ivermectin is an antiparasitic drug that has been used as alternative for prophylaxis and treatment of COVID-19 infection. The adverse effects from supratherapeutic doses can include nonneurological neurological symptoms. In this study, we report the case a 52-year old Filipino male with newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus who developed subacute history fever, cough generalized weakness, causing him to self-medicate thereafter subsequently decrease in sensorium, restlessness complex visual hallucinations.

Toxicity and efficacy of ivermectin in chelonians.
Five red-footed tortoises (Geochelone carbonaria) treated for intestinal nematode parasitism with a single IM injection of ivermectin (0.4 mg/kg) were found in a state of extreme paresis or flaccid paralysis. One tortoise recovered normal motor function over the next 7 to 10 days. The remaining tortoises died within 3 days of receiving the ivermectin. The only consistent postmortem finding was ...
متن کاملIvermectin toxicity in dogs and cats.
General Information Ivermectin is a combination of avermectins. These medications increase the activity of certain types of receptor cells in the CNS in mammals (and in the peripheral nervous system in nematodes and arthropods). This alteration of the CNS is the cause of the symptoms seen in overdose cases. Avermectins are found in the body after oral or parenteral exposure. Signs may appear wi...
متن کاملBiochemical Toxicity of Ivermectin in Wistar Albino Rats
Ivermectin, a macrocyclic lactone, is commonly used against parasitic diseases in both animals and human beings. Although, its anti-parasitic activity is well known, there is dearth of literature on its effect on the host. The present study on biochemical effects of ivermectin in Wistar albino rats was undertaken to evaluate if it is toxic to the host ?. This investigation evaluated the effect ...
متن کاملIdentifying the Cause of Toxicity of a Saline Mine Water
Elevated major ions (or salinity) are recognised as being a key contributor to the toxicity of many mine waste waters but the complex interactions between the major ions and large inter-species variability in response to salinity, make it difficult to relate toxicity to causal factors. This study aimed to determine if the toxicity of a typical saline seepage water was solely due to its major io...
متن کاملIdentifying sub-optimal responses to ivermectin in the treatment of River Blindness.
Identification of drug resistance before it becomes a public health concern requires a clear distinction between what constitutes a normal and a suboptimal treatment response. A novel method of analyzing drug efficacy studies in human helminthiases is proposed and used to investigate recent claims of atypical responses to ivermectin in the treatment of River Blindness. The variability in the ra...
